When life blindsides you—when relationships fracture, dreams collapse, or obedience seems to lead to pain—it’s easy to wonder if God’s plan has gone off the rails. In this message from Genesis 37, the story of Joseph meets us right in those moments of confusion, rejection, and suffering. Betrayed by his brothers and stripped of everything, Joseph’s life looks like a disaster… yet it becomes a doorway to redemption.

This sermon speaks to the questions we all ask in the “pit”: Where is God? Is any good coming from this? Through Joseph’s story—and ultimately through Jesus—we’re reminded of a deeper truth: God is still at work, even when we can’t see it. What feels like interruption may actually be divine intention.

If you’ve ever wrestled with disappointment, loss, or the silence of God, this message invites you to reconsider your story. Because what you tell yourself in the dark matters—and the gospel declares that God never wastes pain.

Discussion Questions:
1. What stood out most to you from Josephs story thus far in Gen 37?

2. Where in your life right now does it feel like “this cannot possibly be part of God’s plan”?

3. Stuck in the well Joseph’s life looked like failure.  How does looking at Jesus and the cross change how you interpret those moments?

4. Based on the truth of the Cross and Romans 8:28, how could you begin to talk to yourself differently in moments of feeling stuck or discouraged?

5. If you had to take 1 thing away from this reflection what would it be?  What do you believe God wants to say to you specifically?
